Amendments to the Criminal Code of Russia, establishing responsibility for insulting veterans, will be submitted to the State Duma on Wednesday, February 24. This was told by the first vice-speaker of the Federation Council, secretary of the General Council of “United Russia” Andrei Turchak, reports TASS.
The deputies of the State Duma previously proposed to toughen the punishment for defamation of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the legislators intend to equate the public dissemination of deliberately false information about veterans with the rehabilitation of Nazism, and also establish criminal liability for insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland.
“On February 24, United Russia, together with representatives of other parliamentary parties, will amend the legislation and tighten the responsibility for such manifestations,” Turchak said.
United Russia has also promised to continue working on improving the country’s legislation.
We will remind that the authors of this initiative were the deputy chairman of the lower house of parliament Irina Yarovaya, chairman of the defense committee Vladimir Shamanov and deputies Alexander Khinshtein and Sergei Boyarsky.
