As the Ombudsman noted, Saakashvili was diagnosed with a serious brain disease. Because of this, the former politician can fall into a coma and die, says Lomjaria. She asked the Georgian Ministry of Justice and the Special Penitentiary Service for permission to transport Saakashvili to a multifunctional clinic.
“Saakashvili should be immediately transferred to a functionally working and experienced polyprofile clinic, as there is a high likelihood of developing status epilepticus or coma, which can lead to a lethal process,” the ombudsman said in a statement.
Earlier, the former Georgian leader was transferred to the intensive care unit of the prison clinic. Before that, he lost consciousness. He was recommended to have an electroencephalogram.
