The Russian Judo Federation announced the death of athlete David Khakhaleishvili, who won Olympic gold in 1992 as part of the united judo team at the Barcelona Games.
David Khakhaleishvili was 49 years old. What caused his death was not specified.
Hahaleishivili started his sports career as a judoka. He won the European Championship three times, and also won two silver and two bronze medals at the world championships as part of the Soviet and Georgian national teams. Then he performed as a sambist and twice won the world championships in this capacity.
