Nuland: US developed 18 scenarios in case of escalation in Ukraine

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said in an interview with the Financial Times that Washington has developed 18 different scenarios for action in case the situation around Ukraine escalates.

She did not disclose exactly what these scenarios are. The United States hopes it can de-escalate and make some progress with Russia through diplomacy, Nuland said.

Also, the deputy head of the State Department expressed her hope that Moscow would continue negotiations. According to the diplomat, so far the parties have simply heard each other, but it will take more time to reach agreements.

Earlier, Victoria Nuland said that the White House intends to continue dialogue with the Russian Federation on security guarantees in Europe and is now preparing written responses on this topic to Russian officials.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected Western accusations of an escalation in the situation around Ukraine, saying that it is not going to attack anyone, while noting that such statements are used as an excuse to place more NATO military equipment near Russian borders.
