Erdogan and Aliyev inaugurated an international airport in Karabakh. The Turkish president landed in Fizuli on Tuesday, where he and his Azerbaijani counterpart opened an air harbor. It has been assigned a code from the International Air Transport Association – FZL.
Construction of the facility began on January 14, 2021, and an international airport was built in just eight months. The first test flight took place back in September, when an Airbus A340-500 passenger plane landed.
The airport is designed for the simultaneous parking of eight ships, the area of the apron is 60 thousand square meters. The runway is 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide.
The city of Fizuli became part of Azerbaijan during the armed conflict with the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Aliyev stressed that airports will be built in Lachin and Zangelan regions. These territories also came under the control of Baku after last year’s conflict.
