“For 20 years the Americans tried to ‘civilize’ the Afghans”
Commenting on the results of the American campaign in Afghanistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized Washington’s approach: “For 20 years American troops were present in this territory and for 20 years they tried … to ‘civilize’ the people who live there, and in fact – to introduce their own norms and standards of living in the broadest sense of the word, including in the political organization of society, ”the Russian leader said during a conversation with schoolchildren that took place within the framework of the Znanie society marathon.
“Result? Some tragedies, some losses for those who did it – for the United States, and even more so for those people who live in Afghanistan. The result is zero, if not to say that everything went negative, ”Putin said.
According to him, this happened due to the fact that the Americans approached the solution of the Afghan issue without taking into account the history, culture and philosophy of the country’s inhabitants, without respect for their traditions.
