Despite the fact that 38-year-old Kate Middleton and 38-year-old Meghan Markle always seemed friendly in public, "behind the scenes" they often said that their relationship was actually quite tense.
A new excerpt from In Search of Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Building of the Modern Royal Family, which was published in the British newspaper The Sunday Times over the weekend, focused on the relationship between Princes William and Harry, as well as their wives, Kate and Meghan. So, its authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Daran write that the Duchess of Cambridge did nothing to bridge the chasm in the relationship between her husband and his brother, and also to help Megan enter the royal family.

The book argues that Harry and William's supposed breakup began when William raised concerns about how his brother's relationship with Meghan was rapidly developing. He wanted to make sure she had the right intentions and that his brother was not "blinded by passion."

But even after Meghan married Harry and became the senior member of the royal family, they did not become closer. The flowers Kate sent for her birthday were lovely, but Meghan would rather have Kate help her during her most difficult press times.
