Russian-American talks on security guarantees have started in Geneva, RIA Novosti reports.
It is clarified that the meeting is being held in a closed format on the territory of the US permanent mission at the UN office.
The parties will discuss the Russian draft treaty with the United States, in particular, provisions on the mutual non-deployment of missiles in each other’s reach, refusal to further expand NATO and reduce military exercises.
The Russian delegation is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
Let us remind you that the preliminary part of the negotiations in the format of a working dinner, which lasted more than two hours, was held in Geneva yesterday. Ryabkov later said that the conversation was difficult, but businesslike.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also expressed the view that progress at the Geneva meeting is possible on both sides, noting that if the United States and the EU take steps to address some of Russia’s concerns, it will have to do the same.
