The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, himself handed over the post of chairman of the Security Council to the head of the republic, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. This was announced by the press secretary of Nazarbayev Aidos Ukibay.
He recalled that the politician has been in the capital of the country all these days and maintains direct contact with Tokayev.
“The situation was very difficult and therefore the elbasy [лидер нации] he himself decided to transfer the post of chairman of the Security Council to the president, ”TASS quoted the press secretary as saying.
According to him, Nazarbayev believes that the riots demanded a prompt and uncompromising response from the country’s leadership. Ukibai added that Nazarbayev and Tokayev were always “on the same side of the barricades.”
