NATO confirmed the holding of the Council of the Russian Federation and the alliance on January 12

NATO confirmed the holding of a meeting of the Council of the Alliance and Russia on January 12, drawing attention to the fact that the dialogue with the Russian Federation should be based on reciprocity, TASS reports with reference to the press service of the organization.

They also stressed that future dialogue with Moscow should respond to NATO’s concerns about Russia’s actions.

Earlier, the US State Department said that the North Atlantic Alliance is ready for meaningful negotiations with Russia and is united on the issue of “deterring further aggression” against Ukraine.

The day before, President of the United States Joe Biden held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, during the conversation, the parties discussed upcoming contacts with Russia on security guarantees.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, said that Russia’s proposals on security guarantees are aimed at creating and legalizing a new system of agreements based on the principle of abandoning attempts to achieve military superiority.
