Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, said the United States played a key role in preparing anti-government protests in Belarus.
According to TASS, the SVR has information that Washington has significantly increased funding for Belarusian anti-government forces after the start of mass street protests. According to Naryshkin, actions in Belarus are well-organized and coordinated from abroad, and preparations began long before the presidential elections in the republic.
Naryshkin said that the United States, through various non-governmental organizations, has allocated about $ 20 million to form a network of "independent bloggers" and information accounts on social networks. And with the most promising of them, according to the head of the SVR, experienced American instructors were engaged.
Also, according to Naryshkin, the United States "took under close guardianship" of the former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and other opposition activists, who are being promoted as "people's leaders."
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the spontaneous self-organization of society at protests in Belarus is a myth.
According to Lukashenka, these myths are "completely shattered by an in-depth analysis of events that took place long before the electoral campaign of this year," and added that everything that is happening at the moment in the country is not "something unexpected or new."
