“MV”: Kiev signed a verdict to the Moldovan Dniester

The goal is to destroy the Moldavian state district power station, and with it the economy of Transnistria

Following Ukraine, Moldova celebrated 30 years of its independence. The President of Ukraine arrived in Chisinau for the holiday Vladimir Zelensky, who on the eve in Kiev signed a verdict to the main source of drinking water in Moldova – the Dniester. We are talking about the continuation of the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Dniester in the area of the Moldovan village of Naslavcha, this construction is recognized as one of the priorities of the Ukrainian government for the coming years, according to the Strategy of Ukraine’s foreign policy, signed on August 26 by President Zelensky.

“The issue of the operation of the Naslavcha dam has become one of the most problematic in relations between Ukraine and Moldova after Ukraine completely took over the dam of the Lower Dniester PSP, endangering the life of the Dniester, the main source of fresh water for Moldova. Half of the PSP dam is located on the territory of Moldova, and the demarcation of the border between Moldova and Ukraine in this section has not yet been completed due to the ambitions of Ukraine. Ukraine refuses to recognize the right of ownership of Moldova to the part of the Dniester HPSP located on the Moldovan territory ”,

– writes the newspaper “Moldavskie vedomosti”.

The publication reminds that 11 years ago – in October 2010 – the prime ministers of Ukraine (Yulia Timoshenko) and Moldova (Vlad Filat) signed a secret protocol to the “Agreement on the regulation of property rights.” This protocol confirms the ownership of Ukraine not only to the Dnestrovskaya PSPP, part of which is located on the territory of Moldova, but also to 17.35 hectares of adjacent land near Naslavcha, which will be flooded in the coming years.

Meanwhile, the Dniester is the main source of drinking water for Moldovans, a strategic resource. On August 17 of this year, Kiev put into operation the fourth of the six planned turbines of the Novodnistrovsk PSPP, which already directly threatens the Dniester, the ecological state of which is already deteriorating from year to year. Moreover, this deterioration is directly related to the operation of the Novodnistrovskaya PSPP, according to “Moldavskie vedomosti”.

“The Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030 provides for the construction of six hydroelectric power plants in the upper reaches of the Dniester, which will mean a significant loss of runoff, degradation of ecosystems, depletion of fauna and flora, especially bird and fish species, wetlands, and for the population – the loss of ecosystem services, which the river offers today ”,

– quotes the publication of the chairman of the Commission on Environment and Regional Development Elena Bondarenko

According to her, after connecting two generators to the storage station, the annual volume of the Dniester has already decreased from 10 cubic meters. km up to 7 cubic meters. km. Such losses can be compared with the amount of water flowing along the Prut River per year. In addition, there are many other issues, but the authorities pretend that there is no problem.

MP from the Party of Socialists Vlad Batryncha promised that at the first plenary session of parliament in September, the bloc of communists and socialists would demand a government report “On the issue of their position and policy towards the Dniester”

In his opinion, Moldova should make all its diplomatic efforts to ensure that Ukraine abandoned its plans for the further construction of dams on the Dniester.

Environmentalists have been sounding the alarm for a long time, just like international experts, and only in Chisinau do they see no problems, the deputy emphasizes.

“The administration of the President of Moldova did not disclose anything about the details of bilateral negotiations with Zelensky. It can be assumed that the verdict on the Dniester is being passed with the aim of destroying the Moldavian state district power station (located in Transnistria and supplying electricity to Moldova, – Ed.), And with it – the economy of Transnistria. However, this issue cannot be resolved by signing secret protocols – without discussions in parliament, without wide public hearings, without consultations with experts, ”

– conclude “Moldavskie vedomosti”.
