Moldova partially repaid debt to Gazprom

Moldova has paid off part of its debt to Gazprom by paying for gas supplied in early autumn, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press secretary of the Moldovagaz company Alexander Barbov.

Earlier, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said that the country does not want to increase its debt to Gazprom, therefore it intends to pay in full for the gas received. Including the authorities intend to pay for the fuel purchased in October at a price of $ 790 per thousand cubic meters.

By May 1, a foreign company chosen by the Moldovan government will conduct an independent audit of the debt, and a repayment agreement will be signed with Gazprom.

Moldova estimates its obligations at $ 430 million. At the same time, the Russian company claims that “the body of the debt is $ 433 million, and taking into account the delay in payments, the total amount of debt is $ 709 million.”

Earlier, Gazprom and Moldovagaz signed an agreement for the supply of gas for five years. A protocol was also signed to settle current issues.

Deliveries under the new contract began yesterday. Spinu called the negotiations with Gazprom constructive, noting that the compromise suits both sides.

In addition, it was reported that Moscow and Chisinau plan to sign an agreement by the end of next year. The meeting of the intergovernmental commission on energy issues will take place in November.
