The OSCE Special Representative believes that there are no problems between the two banks of the Dniester
Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Thomas Mayer-Harting At the end of his visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol, he spoke at a press conference, at which he summed up the results of negotiations with the two banks of the Dniester. The press conference was held at the international airport of the Moldovan capital.
“All the contacts we had these days confirmed to me that they are ready to work to improve people’s lives, and other efforts will also be made to consolidate trust. The negotiation process continues, and, most importantly, both sides are aware of its importance, “
– noted the diplomat.
He stressed that the main goal of the OSCE mission is to improve the lives of ordinary people and establish interaction between them, while he is confident that this goal is supported by both sides of the conflict.
However, not everything is so smooth in reality, as Thomas Mayer-Harting said: the next meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), which is responsible for security in the region, was once again disrupted by the Moldovan side. The parties spent several hours to discuss the agenda of the meeting, but did not come to a consensus.
The Moldovan delegation to the JCC insists on the inclusion of political issues on the agenda, while the representatives of Tiraspol are confident that the main task of the JCC is the security of the region, and there are politicians to discuss political issues.
“The Moldovan side is trying to include in the agenda issues that are not related to the peacekeeping operation and should be considered at other negotiating platforms. Politicizing the situation in a peacekeeping operation is unacceptable. The Transnistrian side is against such posed questions. We are lost in conjectures: whether the delegation has such a position, or a political course is taken to undermine the mechanisms of the peacekeeping operation, ”
– the co-chairman of the JCC from the PMR commented on the situation Oleg Belyakov…
As a result, the meeting did not take place, although the agenda included important issues that remained unresolved. Among these issues are “the plan of activities of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces for 2021, a report on the seizure of weapons and ammunition in the Security Zone, a report on the readiness of peacekeeping posts and others,” Belyakov noted.
In Chisinau, Tiraspol was routinely blamed for everything.
