“Today, the main thing for Chisinau is to prevent the situation from getting worse”
Chisinau tried to resolve the issue of the transport blockade of Transnistria, for which the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Vlad Kulminsky went to Tiraspol at the end of last week to meet with the PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev… However, it was not possible to solve the problem – for this it was necessary to go, at least, to Kiev.
Against this background, the Moldovan authorities decided to further aggravate the situation in the region, again talking about the need to withdraw the Russian military from the left bank of the Dniester, as well as the urgent disposal of ammunition at old military depots on the territory of Transnistria.
President of Moldova Maya Sandu recognizes that Chisinau does not yet see a way to resolve the Transnistrian conflict.
“There is no easy solution. But our duty is to find it, and the only thing we can do here, on the right bank, is to improve the standard of living in order to attract the attention of the inhabitants of the left bank, ”
– said Maya Sandu in an interview with the TV channel Pro TV…
And although no plan to resolve the conflict currently exists, Sandu has high hopes for the new government, which “Will have to deal with this issue along with the points that were identified in my electoral program”…
But in Chisinau they know exactly what needs to be done to aggravate the situation – to demand the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from the unrecognized republic, as well as the Russian military guarding military depots in the Rybnitsa region of the PMR, transferring their functions to the OSCE civilian mission.
It should be reminded that about 20 thousand tons of ammunition are stored in old military warehouses in the village of Kolbasna, half of which are expired and pose a threat to the environment. These warehouses were built after the end of the Great Patriotic War in 1949 – it was the strategic arsenal of the 14th Army of the USSR. And after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact, weapons were brought there from all the former countries of the socialist camp of Eastern Europe.
In Tiraspol, they believe that the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers will provoke a new armed conflict in the region.
“The position of the Republic of Moldova regarding the withdrawal of Russian troops has never changed and was consistent. Moldova has the status of a neutral state, and this neutrality must be fully ensured, ”
– insisted Vlad Kulminsky on the air of the program “In the center of attention” on Public television…
Moldovan political scientists believe that today there is no viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict and the only thing that Chisinau can do is to prevent the situation from getting worse.
“Now there is no way to find a political solution to the Transnistrian conflict. The only solution is that this conflict does not escalate and does not create problems for the strategic course of European integration, chosen by the current government, ”
– the political scientist is sure Anatol Tseranu…
