Three-time world champion in high jump Maria Lasitskene is considering the option of playing for the national team of Belarus at the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, the All Sport agency reports, citing sources.
The manager of the 27-year-old athlete denied reports about Lasitsken's transfer to another national team. In an interview with Sport-Express, Olga Nazarova called this information a fake.
Lasitskene's spouse Vladas Lasickas wrote on Twitter that the message about the transfer of the Russian woman to the national team of Belarus is unreliable.
Recall that the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) had to pay World Athletics a $ 5 million fine by July 1 for interfering with the investigation of the doping case of the Russian high jumper Danila Lysenko.
If the federation does not pay the money, Russian athletes may be completely banned from participating in international competitions in any status. Now the issue of granting neutral status to athletes from the Russian Federation has been postponed until the end of July.
Earlier, several titled Russian athletes did not rule out leaving the Russian national team due to the situation with ARAF. In particular, Maria Lasitskene, Angelica Sidorova, Sergey Shubenkov and Matvey Volkov spoke about this.
