French President Emmanuel Macron said that the use of the Sputnik V vaccine will not solve the issue of accelerating vaccination in the European Union, Interfax reports.
“I don’t think that the Russian vaccine is a solution to the acceleration today, since it will take time both to obtain permission from the European agency and to produce such a vaccine on our continent,” he said.
Macron also clarified that the drug cannot yet be used in France, as the European health authorities have not given permission.
Earlier, the leader of the party “Unruly France” Jean-Luc Melanchon criticized the actions of the French government, which does not use the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus.
A vaccination campaign with drugs from a number of Western companies started in France at the end of December, but its slow pace is causing public criticism.
