Macron plans to re-negotiate with Putin in the near future

French President Emmanuel Macron is going to hold new telephone talks with Vladimir Putin in the near future, TASS reports.

The French leader said this today at a press conference with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in connection with the beginning of the Paris presidency of the EU Council.

“France continues to exchange views with Russia. I have already had two very lengthy teleconferences with Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent weeks, and new negotiations are coming in the coming days, ”Macron said.

He expressed the opinion that the European Union needs to be in dialogue with the Russian Federation, but this, in his words, does not mean making concessions. “First of all, the dialogue allows us to consider what is the subject of disagreement. We need a dialogue with Russia, which, by virtue of its geography and history, is an integral part of this European security architecture that we have to build, ”the French politician said.

Macron said earlier in January that he wants to run again in the presidential elections. According to him, sanitary conditions must be created for this.

Macron also expressed hope for the end of the pandemic in 2022. At the same time, he noted that “difficult weeks” are expected in France against the background of the fifth wave of COVID-19.
