Lukashenko threatened to cut off gas transit to Europe while expanding sanctions

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko threatened the European Union with the fact that in case of expansion of sanctions, he will block the transit of gas through the transnational gas pipeline “Yamal – Europe”, BelTA informs.

“We are heating Europe, they are still threatening us that they will close the border. And if we turn off natural gas there? Therefore, I would recommend that the Polish leadership, Lithuanians and other headless people think before speaking, ”the politician said at a meeting with the country’s government.

He also expressed concern that weapons and ammunition could be transferred to the migrant camp “in order to provoke a conflict.” In this regard, Lukashenko instructed the Ministry of Defense, the KGB and border troops to ensure control over the movement of troops of Poland and other NATO countries on the border. The President of Belarus noted that the weapons that they are trying to throw into the refugee camp mainly come from Donbass.

“You see that 15 thousand already military personnel, tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters flew with planes. They pulled us up to our border, moreover, insolently, without warning anyone, ”the agency quotes Lukashenka as saying.

The situation on the border of Belarus and Poland escalated on the evening of November 8. More than 2000 migrants from the countries of East and Africa went there. Earlier today, Polish border guards recorded 468 attempts to illegally cross the border – about 150 migrants tried to break through it.

Media reported this week that the EU plans to expand sanctions against Minsk due to the border crisis. The European Union believes that some officials of Belarus are responsible for what is happening. The Russian Foreign Ministry promised the country support in the event of expansion of sanctions by the EU.
