Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on the development of a domestic vaccine against COVID-19, reports BelTA, referring to press service of the head of state.
As specified, the relevant instructions were given to the Ministry of Health of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences. The set of measures is designed for 2021-2023. At the disposal of the president, in particular, the performers of the work, the main stages and sources of funding, as well as the timing of preclinical and clinical trials are determined.
It should be reminded that in October last year, the republic began vaccinating volunteers with the Russian drug “Sputnik V”. Belarus became the first country after the Russian Federation to approve this vaccine.
In March 2021 in the republic vaccination with the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm has started.
March 25 Belarus launched commercial production of Sputnik V at Belmedpreparaty.
It is expected that mass vaccination in the country will begin in April, in total it is planned to vaccinate more than 5.5 million people.
