In early September, Lukashenko introduced a bill to suspend readmission from the EU to the lower house of parliament. The President explained this by the unfriendly actions of the West.
“To suspend the agreement between the Republic of Belarus and the European Union on the readmission of persons staying without a permit, signed in Brussels on January 8, 2020,” the law says.
The agreement between Belarus and the EU was one of the points on the way to simplify the visa regime. Now the mechanism for the transfer, acceptance and return of persons who have violated the conditions of entry, stay and residence has been stopped.
Readmission – consent to receive back their citizens subject to deportation.
After Alexander Lukashenko’s victory in the presidential elections, relations between the West and Belarus have become more complicated. Minsk has already suspended its participation in the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative.
