President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview on the situation on the border with Poland that fighting against migrants with tanks is blackmail.
“Fight against migrants with tanks today? Excuse me. You and I, military men, understand what it is like today to wage war with these unfortunate people on the border of Poland, for example, with Belarus, and to put forward columns of tanks. It is clear that this is some kind of training or blackmail, ”Lukashenka told the National Defense magazine.
He added that taking up arms in the modern world is “like death”, especially in the center of Europe.
On November 8, the State Border Committee of Belarus reported that several thousand refugees had gathered in front of the Polish barriers in the crossing area. The Polish authorities increased the number of security officials guarding the border and brought in military equipment.
When trying to break through, Polish troops used tear gas and opened fire.
Border guards on the eve recorded 309 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border by migrants.
