Lukashenka calls elections held in Belarus a holiday

Alexander Lukashenko has his own version of the events that took place on the night of August 10 in the country. He is convinced that the elections have become a holiday for the people, but there were those who wanted to spoil it.

On Monday, Alexander Lukashenko met with the head of the CIS observer mission, Sergei Lebedev. He thanked the general, who was not afraid to come to Minsk during the pandemic, for the visit. The President was ready to listen to comments from the CIS Executive Secretary that may have arisen during the election campaign.

Lukashenka noted that the turnout at the elections became a record one. This figure could be even higher after the announcement of the final results of the vote, he suggested. The president is moved when he sees small children at the polling stations, whom their parents take with them. “You see, this is a holiday!” – he said.

According to the politician, the celebration was spoiled by foreigners who arrived in the country and staged provocations. The president also said that during the clashes between the people and the security forces, about 50 civilians and about 30 representatives of law enforcement agencies were injured.

Let us remind that Alexander Lukashenko, according to preliminary data, got 80% of the votes. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya came in second with 10%. She does not recognize the election results. On the basis of mass protests at night, the oppositionist demands that a peaceful transfer of power take place.
