LPR head named death toll due to conflict in Donbass – Izvestia

Nine thousand people became victims of the conflict between Ukraine and the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass, the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik told about this in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

He explained that four thousand of the dead were residents of the Luhansk People’s Republic, another five thousand were residents of the DPR. Beekeeper said that they were victims of Ukrainian punishers.

“Tens of thousands of people were injured. Since July 2020 alone, more than 200 people have suffered, 30 of them are civilians, ”added the head of the LPR.

Pasechnik also said that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to foreigners, forgets to mention this. In addition, he accused Kiev of non-compliance with the ceasefire. According to Pasechnik, in the last 14 months alone, which are considered to be a ceasefire, over 12,000 ammunition has been fired at LPR positions.

The head of the Luhansk People’s Republic reiterated his readiness to hold a meeting with Zelensky to discuss issues on resolving the conflict. He stressed that the authorities of the LPR and DPR have no bans on meeting with the President of Ukraine, and the priorities of the self-proclaimed republics are to end bloodshed and protect citizens.

At the same time, Pasechnik noted that the unification of the LPR and the DPR is not on the agenda. According to him, integration will not help solve security issues and socio-economic problems.

After the coup in Kiev in February 2014, the DPR and LPR declared independence, after which the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against them. In the summer of 2020, additional measures to monitor compliance with the ceasefire came into force in Donbas.

The Kremlin believes that in order to resolve the situation, Kiev should enter into a direct dialogue with the DPR and LPR and begin the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Earlier, AiF.ru told why the negotiations on Donbass reached a dead end.
