The Russian government’s plans to develop hypersonic missiles are feared by the United States. This is stated in the material of the French newspaper Le Monde.
As Troy Bouffard, director of the Alaska-based Center for Security and Arctic Resilience, recalled, Russian hypersonic missiles are capable of speeds in excess of 6,000 kilometers per hour. According to him, today there are no systems capable of intercepting these weapons.
“Strategically, the Russians did a good job. Their plans are frightening,” Buffard said.
The security specialist added that the US is seriously lagging behind in terms of the Arctic fleet. Bouffard noted that US troops have only two icebreakers, while Russia has 55. Five of them are nuclear-powered.
