The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Peichinovich-Burich will visit Russia next week on his first working visit in this position and will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports.
As the official representative of the Russian diplomatic service Maria Zakharova clarified, the talks will take place in Moscow on October 19.
According to Zakharova, the parties plan to discuss a wide range of issues regarding the participation of the Russian Federation in the multidisciplinary activities of the Council of Europe and topical issues on the European agenda.
In addition, Lavrov intends to once again draw the attention of the West to the problems of systemic discrimination of the Russian and Russian-speaking population of Ukraine and the Baltic countries, the oppression of the domestic media, as well as attempts at historical revisionism and the glorification of Nazi accomplices.
It is noted that within the framework of the visit, Maria Peichinovich-Burich will hold several more meetings, in particular, in the Federation Council and the Ministry of Justice, in addition, she will talk with the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
