Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov joked that Russia is offended to be in second place in the list of countries that, according to Washington, interfere in the internal affairs of the United States before the upcoming presidential elections, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, US Assistant to the President for National Security Robert O'Brien said that interference in the American elections is a "red line", and its crossing threatens with extraordinary consequences. He called China, Russia and Iran the main opponents, noting that among these states, the PRC is carrying out the most ambitious program of influencing the United States from a political point of view.
Lavrov noted that now commentators are asking politicians who interferes more - Russia, China or Iran. According to their estimates, in this "competition" the PRC is still winning. The minister ironically added that Russia is offended to be in second place, "because we are used to always being the first."
Earlier it became known that Trump announced the extension of the state of emergency for a year, imposed amid the threat of foreign interference in the country's elections.
