Lavrov criticized US policy

US policy has led to the loss of the functionality of modern institutions. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

The minister cited as an example the US withdrawal from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty) and the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-3).

You said that modern institutions are losing their functionality, significance and meaning. I would like to understand what prompted you to this conclusion? Because the only reason for the obvious, universal reason for making such generalizations, I see the politics of the United States of America- said Lavrov.

He recalled that after the US withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty there was a relative pause, and then Washington began to destroy all elements of arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament. So, the United States withdrew from the INF Treaty, will leave the Open Skies Treaty, and START-3 is also next.

Lavrov recalled that the United States withdrew from WHO, the UN Human Rights Council and UNESCO.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Washington is using the coronavirus infection to settle scores with competitors. He stressed that instead of consolidation, Western colleagues led by the United States are using the time of the pandemic to advance their "selfish interests, to settle scores with geopolitical competitors." wrote that Lavrov warned the United States against ultimatums against Russia. He stressed that Moscow is ready to work with any US government, but it is necessary to talk with Russia "on the basis of equality and mutual benefit."
