Lavrov considers the introduction of the “Rodchenkov Act” a shame for world sports

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the introduction of the “Rodchenkov Act” would be a disgrace for the entire world sport.

In an interview with the TV channel “Match TV” the Foreign Minister recalled that the head of the US Anti-Doping Agency Travis Tigart accused WADA of “shielding the Russians” and threatened to create its own system on the basis of the “Rodchenkov Act” …

“If this system is really implemented, it will be a shame for the whole sport,” Lavrov stressed.

He also expressed the opinion that the American authorities want to privatize this area of international relations.

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that WADA is being criticized by the United States, even though it applies “clearly discriminatory measures” to Russians. In addition, 90% of the members of the executive committee of the agency, according to Lavrov, represent the NATO states or their closest allies.

According to the minister, it is necessary to reform WADA, including ensuring a politically and geographically balanced composition of the organization.

We will remind, in December, the head of the United States Donald Trump signed a document named after WADA informant in the case of doping in Russian sports Grigory Rodchenkov. The action of the “Rodchenkov Act” makes it possible for the United States to prosecute a citizen of any country for doping collusion in competitions with American participation.

Formerly the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that the United States is trying to explain its own defeats in sports by signing the “Rodchenkov Act”.

Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin called for the development of measures to minimize the risks for Russian athletes in connection with the “Rodchenkov Act”.
