Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the closure of the country’s permanent mission and other bodies for contacts with NATO in response to the organization’s actions. He advised that Western colleagues should address all questions to the Ambassador to Belgium. According to the admiral, this phrase turned out to be “caustic” and caused him fears.
“The ‘beware of the bear’ strategy – the reason why NATO was formed after World War II – should remain a priority now,” the American admiral said.
Stavridis believes that NATO cannot ignore Russia’s interests given Moscow’s increased power. He believes that the West should work out a new strategy taking into account global changes and make every effort to resume the NATO-Russia Council, as well as all closed missions in Brussels and Moscow.
