The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that in the coming months, NATO could begin to build up forces near the Russian Federation under the pretext of the situation in Ukraine, TASS writes.
“We have reason to believe that those loud statements that are now being heard from the West that if Russia does not obey the demands of the West on how to deal with its troops on its territory, which is absurd in itself, then in the next two or three month, the West will increase the activity of rapid reaction forces, NATO special operations forces around our borders,” Lavrov stressed.
Recall that this week a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council was held. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called the negotiations unsuccessful, as disagreements were recorded on fundamental issues.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is preparing for any developments while waiting for written responses from the United States and NATO on security guarantees.
In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organization would not compromise on the expansion of the alliance in the east. The Secretary General called the deployment of troops in the eastern part of NATO in order to protect the allies a “key right” of the alliance.
