Launch of Nord Stream 2 may be postponed until May 2022 – media

The commissioning of Nord Stream 2 may drag on until May 8, 2022, Bloomberg said.

It is noted that until this date, German regulators and the EU authorities have the right to decide whether to issue a permit to use the pipeline.

At the same time, according to the experts of the publication, the speed of decision-making on this issue will be affected by the energy crisis in the European market, which may worsen in the near future.

“In the fall, spot prices for gas in Europe rose significantly against the backdrop of increased demand in Asia and a low level of occupancy of gas storage facilities in the continent,” the agency recalls.

At the same time, supplies of the energy carrier via SP-2 may begin the next day after receiving the license. Germany is expected to make a preliminary decision on the gas pipeline by January 8.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Energy expects that supplies via Nord Stream 2 will begin before the end of 2021.

To date, the first string of the gas pipeline is fully ready for launch; it is filled in the amount of approximately 177 million cubic meters. m. In December, the second line should be filled.
