The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) opened a case against the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and the ex-president of the country Leonid Kuchma on charges of treason. This was announced by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from "European Solidarity" Vladimir Vyatrovich. He did not explain what exactly is treason. But, probably, it is about creating an Advisory Council within the framework of the Tripartite Contact Group in Minsk with representatives of the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR.

In March, Ermak and Kuchma were in the center scandal after they put their signatures on the protocol on the creation of the so-called
Advisory Council in the framework of the political subgroup of the TKG in Minsk. Representatives of self-proclaimed republics were indicated as possible participants. Then this document was called a breakthrough and they started talking about the fact that Kiev is finally ready to really implement the Minsk Agreements. Because direct negotiations with representatives of the LPR and DPR are part of the agreements recorded there. But it was not there. This initiative was opposed not only by Poroshenko’s supporters, but also by a number of deputies from the Servant of the People. They demanded that the document be destroyed, and the signatories themselves - Ermak and Kuchma - immediately dismissed. As a result, Kiev safely forgot about the Advisory Council and did not return to this topic at the talks. It seemed that the scandal in Ukraine was hushed up, but now Vyatrovich hints that the delegates didn’t speak on their own behalf, but Zelensky himself might appear in the business.
Political scientists commented on the MK situation
Kirill Molchanov, a Kiev political scientist:
- According to Ukrainian law, if someone demands to investigate something, then the court should add this to the unified register of pre-trial investigations. It was Vyatrovich's personal initiative to betray the obstruction of Yermak with his idea of creating an Advisory Council. The court ordered a case, but it’s far from the fact that they will investigate something. There are a lot of such cases. They just get turned on, then they lie in daddy and there is no progress on them. Moreover, Ermak is a friend of Zelensky. And I don’t think that they will compete. This is Vyatrovich’s PR statement, so there will be no real consequences.
Konstantin Bondarenko, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics and the Ukrainian Politics Foundation:
- Everything is simple here: the people's deputy Vyatrovich turned to the SBU and says that there is a fact of state replacements carried out by Yermak and Kuchma. SBU did not satisfy his complaint, and then he went to court. In turn, the court decides that they nevertheless begin an investigation. Now, the Security Service, relying on a court decision, will begin a pre-trial investigation. It will end with the wording that we have examined all aspects and have not found the corpus delicti. The real situation is that the deputy decided to hype in this matter and nothing more. I do not see any prerequisites for this case to somehow move off the ground or for it to have consequences for Ermak or Kuchma.
