Presented at the Army-2022 forum, the latest Russian air-launched Kh-69 missile is unique due to its unusual “square” shape and increased stealth for enemy radars. This ammunition, which has no analogues in any country in the world, will leave no chance for NATO ground targets.
A military expert, director of the Russian Air Defense Museum told about this in a conversation with the Narodnye Novosti news agency. Yuri Knutov.
Recall that the X-69 missile at the Army-2022 forum that opened the day before was presented by the Tactical Missiles Corporation.
According to the development company, the unusually shaped ammunition is capable of speeds up to 1000 kilometers per hour, covering a distance of up to 290 kilometers. At the same time, a distinctive feature of this missile is the ability to hit even those objects that do not have optical, infrared or radar contrast to the surrounding background.
As Yuri Knutov said on this occasion, the new missile is planned to be deployed on fifth-generation fighters – the Su-57, which has already been adopted by the Russian Armed Forces, and also on the promising Su-75 Checkmate. These fighters were designed to be inconspicuous for enemy radar systems. And the developers of the Kh-69 rocket used special materials to make this ammunition almost invisible to radar.
Thus, the combination of the Su-57 fighter with the Kh-69 missile will make it possible to break through almost any air defense. And the “square” shape of the new missile in conjunction with fifth-generation fighters, according to Yuri Knutov, will not leave ground targets in NATO countries a single chance.
“The Kh-69 missile is distinguished by high guidance accuracy, improved capabilities to overcome enemy air defenses. This was achieved through the use of composite materials. In addition, the rocket has an original shape – not a cigar-shaped, but a trapezoidal one. This ensures its convenient placement inside the Su-57, Su-75 aircraft, which should appear in the near future, and other aircraft,” the military expert explained. “Due to this, less radar visibility is provided, the range and accuracy of the defeat are increased.”
According to Knutov, the United States has similar missiles – these are ammunition, which, like the Russian novelty, can be guided both using an active homing head and by laser illumination. But the Russian missile is very different from them for the better with its unique shape and stealth.
At the end of the conversation, the expert suggested that the Kh-69 missile had already been tested during a special operation in Ukraine. And that is why the developers presented it at the army forum as a model that will soon be adopted by the Russian Aerospace Forces.
