The work of the Normandy format in Donbass is under a big question. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nikiforov on the air of the TV channel “Dom”.
“They can’t agree on the next summit in the Normandy format at the highest level, even the ministers haven’t met yet,” he said.
According to Nikiforov, at the moment the political part and the agenda of the Normandy format are under a big question.
The Normandy format of negotiations on Donbass was launched in 2014. It is attended by Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France. The last time the leaders of these countries met in the framework of the format was December 9, 2019. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated the need to develop a final document. In it, Moscow called for reflecting the state of the negotiation process and the progress in implementing previous decisions. The Russian side also drew attention to the fact that a new meeting in the Normandy format does not make sense without the implementation of these steps.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that in connection with the “filtration measures” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village of Staromaryevka on the demarcation line in Donbass, Russia called on the partners in the “Normandy format” and the OSCE to urge Kiev to end the violence.
