The Japanese authorities intend in the 2022 fiscal year, which begins on April 1 of the calendar year 2022, to form a second space task force of the Air Self-Defense Forces in the country. This was announced by Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, writes the Kyodo agency.
According to Nobuo Kishi, the activities of the department continue to expand, affecting the field of space, cyberspace and the use of electromagnetic waves. In this regard, he drew attention to the importance of ensuring conditions for stable work in outer space.
It is specified that the second group will be located on the territory of the Hofukita airbase, located in the western prefecture of Yamaguchi. A new radar station will also be operational in the area by FY2023.
According to the agency, the actions of the Japanese government are associated with the increased activity of Russia and China in the field of space.
Earlier, the Deputy Representative of Russia at the UN office, Andrei Belousov, warned of the growing threat of turning outer space into an arena of armed confrontation with catastrophic consequences.
