A significant part of the Atlantic coast of the United States, including the most important port and the huge metropolitan area of greater Miami with its 5 million population, is already in the zone of destruction of Iranian-made strike weapons. The portal Just News reported this last Saturday with reference to the Israeli analytical center Alma.
According to the publication, an unprecedented strategic threat for the Americans became a bitter reality for them after the Persians, by agreement with the President, Nicholas Maduro Recently, a large batch of kamikaze drones and long-range reconnaissance drones were secretly transferred to Venezuela. Little of. Apparently, in this Central American country, at least since 2020, the assembly of this kind of weapons from components that Iran secretly supplies there has already been established.
What kind of weapon are we talking about? And how much does it threaten the security of the United States?
The fact that in the near future Venezuela could turn into a springboard for a surprise attack on America was raised in the United States with great concern a few years ago. In particular, in April 2019, a Republican Senator said so from the stage of the American Enterprise Institute. Rick Scott: “We will have problems whether we want to admit it or not. Once they have a foothold in Venezuela, they can at some point come to us by land. Our southern border is known to be very permeable. Using the appropriate weaponry, they can strike Florida or anywhere else. “
True, if we proceed from the context, on that day Scott talked mainly about the threats from Russia and China. Probably, the creation of such a bridgehead by Iran a couple of years ago seemed less likely to him. But it turned out the way it turned out. This was definitely facilitated by the rapid rapprochement between Caracas and Tehran, who, back to back, decided to withstand the most powerful American economic and political pressure on both of these countries.
It became clear back in 2013 that things were heading for something similar. Then the Minister of Defense of Venezuela Diego Alfredo Molero Bellavia for the first time announced its readiness to transfer to the Air Force of the country the first two reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles developed using Venezuelan technologies with the assistance of Iran. It was about the Sant Arpia-1 UAV, a Venezuelan version of the Mohajer-2 unmanned aerial vehicle developed by the Iranian company Qods Aeronautics Industries.
In total, Caracas received from the Persians then 12 such aircraft for a total of $ 28 million. Those reconnaissance drones were transferred to the 8th Air Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group of the Venezuelan Air Force located at El Libertador Air Force Base in Maracay.
However, the situation continued to slide right before our eyes to a qualitatively much more dangerous level for the Americans. In August 2020, the President of Venezuela’s neighboring Colombia Ivan Duk detonated a real information bomb in the international media space. He told Euronews that Caracas intends to purchase long-range ballistic missiles from Iran. “Although the missiles have not yet been delivered to the country (recall, then we were talking about the situation exactly as of the summer of 2020, that is, a year and a half ago -“ SP ”), however, contacts were established specifically at the level of the Venezuelan Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino“, – Ivan Duk warned the world.
Apparently, Washington did not have to doubt the reality of this information. After all, according to The Washington Times, Iranian engineers from Khatam al-Anbia, a construction company owned by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, had already been working hard for several years to build launching sites for many ballistic missiles on Venezuela’s Paraguan Peninsula. And the German Die Welt added that the started construction was personally controlled by General Amir al-Hadshisadeh, the commander of the Iranian Air Force, who more than once specially flew to Venezuela for such a case.
Then, a dozen years ago, The Washington Times believed that their enemies intended to install the latest Iranian ballistic missiles of the Shahab 3s type for that time, but outdated today, on the Paraguan Peninsula. The maximum range of their flight is only no more than 1.5 thousand kilometers. Considering that there is exactly about the same distance from the northern borders of Venezuela to the closest borders of the United States, such a threat does not look too formidable anymore.
But the Persians throughout the past time have continued and continue to rapidly improve their offensive capabilities. And, without a doubt, they achieved (and still achieved, of course) impressive results in this field. No wonder the International Institute for Strategic Studies (headquartered in London) warned: “Iranian countermeasures consist in creating a strategic base on the South American continent – in the most vulnerable place of the United States.”
Given this circumstance, it is likely that today not only Iranian ballistic missiles are planned to be used by America’s enemies as a spearhead aimed at the United States from Venezuela. The emergence somewhere on the Paraguan Peninsula of the most modern Persian long-range strike drones capable of carrying an impressive bomb load can be no less trouble for the Americans.
Obviously, in this regard, today it is worth news about one of the latest developments in Tehran in this area – the Arash-type kamikaze UAV. This rather large drone, according to unofficial data, is capable of launching from a transport and launch container mounted on an automobile chassis and flying up to 2000 kilometers. That’s enough for Miami. This was demonstrated by Iran in November 2021 at the large-scale exercises of the Iranian Armed Forces “Zulfiqar 1400”, during which Arash, having overcome a considerable distance, destroyed a ground target in a mountainous area.
Is it not about this weapon that Maduro spoke mysteriously in October 2020: “If we can acquire them, we will buy (from Tehran -” SP “) this military equipment to strengthen the defense power of Venezuela”? If everything is approximately the case, for the Americans, things are really going badly enough. Especially because they never paid much attention to the organization of the air defense of their continent. Traditionally, relying on missile and bomb strikes from any conceivable enemy to sit out overseas.
Based on such considerations, the main groupings of the US air defense forces are deployed on the continental United States, in Alaska, on the territory of Canada, Iceland and Greenland. Combat operations are planned within these operational areas (sectors, zones). And from the southern direction (from Central and South America, whose states have traditionally been and remain relatively weak in military terms), the Americans, until recently, it seemed, even in terrible dreams, nothing could simply threaten. Now is the time for the recent rulers of the world’s destinies to wake up. It would not have been, to the jubilation of the Persians and Venezuelans, too late for the United States.
