India set daily record for COVID-19 vaccination

In India, a record number of citizens – 347,058 people were vaccinated from coronavirus per day, reports TASS, citing data from the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As specified, a nationwide voluntary vaccination campaign was launched in the country on January 16. Local authorities called it the most massive in the world. More than 1.3 million people were vaccinated in the first week.

India plans to vaccinate about 300 million people by July. First of all, medical workers are vaccinated, as well as other employees who are at risk – police officers, military personnel, specialists from civil defense departments. Then the vaccine will be given to citizens over 50 years old and people with concomitant diseases.

Two vaccines are currently in use in India – Covishield, created by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, and the Indian vaccine Covaxin. Several other drugs, including Sputnik V, are in the country at various stages of clinical trials.

Earlier it was reported that in the United States in “exceptional situations” allowed to mix different vaccines for COVID-19.
