The press service of the regional department of the National Police of Ukraine announced the initiation of a criminal case against a Kiev resident who walked around Lviv wearing a hat with a hammer and sickle, RIA Novosti reports.
“In Lviv, investigators opened criminal proceedings on the fact of using communist symbols on clothes. A 19-year-old resident of Kiev faces up to five years in prison for what he did. A cap with a cockade, which depicts a sickle and a hammer in a red star, was withdrawn from him, ”the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the incident is qualified as the use of communist symbols, banned in Ukraine.
Recall that in May 2015, a law on decommunization came into force in Ukraine, which implies the renaming of settlements and streets named after Soviet statesmen, and a ban on the use of USSR symbols. All the registered monuments to Lenin were dismantled, 52 thousand streets and almost a thousand cities were renamed.
