In Ukraine, charges of embezzlement were brought against the ex-management of Privatbank

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has charged the ex-management of Privatbank with embezzlement.

As reported on the NABU website, the charges were brought against the former chairman of the board of Privatbank, his former first deputy and the former head of one of Privatbank’s divisions, who at the same time held a leading position in an insurance company associated with it.

According to the investigation, in December 2016, the day before Privatbank was declared insolvent, the defendants, on the basis of forged documents, paid more than 136,890,000 hryvnia (about $ 5 million) to an insurance company associated with the ultimate beneficiaries of the bank.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova signed the charges.

Recall that in December 2016, the Ukrainian government, at the suggestion of the National Bank, made a decision to nationalize Privatbank. It became state property, and the state spent more than UAH 155 billion on its capitalization. In February 2019, the Economic Court of Kiev accepted for consideration the claim of businessman Igor Kolomoisky and Triantal, who owned 41.6572% and 16.5748% of Privatbank shares, to invalidate the purchase and sale agreement.
