The journalist of the American edition of the National Interest Nicholas Gvozdev in his material doubted the success of the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to the journalist, Moscow hopes that low gas reserves in Europe will force them to certify Nord Stream 2 and open it up for business. This is Russia’s “trick”, and Washington cannot afford to lose sight of it.
Gvozdev believes that the Ukrainian authorities overestimate the level of support that their American partners will provide them in order to help solve the problems in Donbass and make up for the losses that will inevitably arise when the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is launched. According to the journalist, the United States only creates the appearance of powerful support to keep Russia from taking military and economic steps towards Ukraine.
According to the expert, America wants to see Ukraine as the main supplier of Russian gas to Europe. But Gazprom is already transferring part of the gas supplies to Turkey and China. US sanctions have failed to halt the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline, but the Americans still hope to prevent the certification of the new pipeline. And Russia will simply wait until an energy crisis flares up in Europe, which will be provoked by Washington’s actions.
