The European Union supported peaceful protests, noting that the state should ensure the possibility of such actions. This was announced by a representative of the European Commission, RIA Novosti reported.
The protests began to take place after the arrest of the rapper Pablo Asel. He was given a term for obstruction of justice and threats to a witness. We will remind, this week in different localities of the country, protesters built barricades, set fire to garbage containers, threw various objects at police officers, in response, the authorities used force. Dozens of participants in the riots were detained, no less people were injured.
The EU said they support peaceful demonstrations and reject any violence.
“In general, with regard to freedom of expression, the EU member states must guarantee the conditions for the realization of these freedoms. We also call on the Spanish authorities to do this, ”the EU representative stressed.
