In Germany, they said that the fight against SP-2 was caused by US plans for the gas market

The head of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee, Michael Roth, said that opposition to the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is largely due to the economic interests of other countries, reports Handelsblatt.

During a conversation with correspondents of the publication, the German politician recalled that the United States, in particular, is interested in the fight against the Russian gas pipeline project, which has its own plans for the European gas market.

“After all, the US wants to sell its expensive liquefied natural gas in Europe,” Roth said.

The deputy also noted that the issue of Nord Stream 2 is controversial even among Germany’s partners.

At the same time, the German politician called on Russia to guarantee the continuation of gas transit through Ukraine after 2024.

Earlier, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland also said that Washington is currently working with representatives of Germany and the EU to slow down the launch of the Russian gas pipeline.
