Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), flew to Tehran on Saturday to participate in negotiations on further verification activities at Iranian nuclear facilities.
This was announced on Twitter by Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna. He noted that at the talks it is necessary to clarify the parameters of the agency’s inspection activities in Iran, taking into account the new Iranian law.
On Monday, Iran notified the IAEA of the implementation of the law of the parliament of the republic. According to the document, from February 23, the scope of inspections in this country will be limited. Grossi said yesterday that he expects a positive outcome of his visit.
Earlier, Iranian parliamentary presidium member Ahmad Amirabadi Farakhani said that Tehran would send IAEA inspectors if sanctions against the country were not lifted by February 21. The US State Department said that the expulsion of IAEA inspectors should receive universal condemnation.
