The politician told who he considers his Russian friend
Former head of the Italian government, leader of the right-wing Forward Italy party, Silvio Berlusconi, said that modern international politics is experiencing a shortage of charismatic and big state leaders. The last of them, the former prime minister is sure, was Vladimir Putin.
So, in an interview with La Stampa in Turin, the politician told how the President of the Russian Federation congratulated him on his anniversary – on September 29, Silvio turned 85 years old. Berlusconi said that he was recently called by “friend Putin”, RIA FAN reports.
“And I told him exactly the following: Vlad, you know me, I am always sincere and I am not telling you this for flattery. Today you remain the only really major leader in the whole world.” And he laughed. And I wasn’t joking. It’s true, “said the Italian multi-billionaire.
In general, Berlusconi is sure that world politics has faced difficulties due to the lack of charismatic leaders. As an example, the ex-prime minister cited the situation in Germany, where Olaf Scholz is busy forming a government.
“I know him well and I can assure you that he is a politician from the category of those who have very modest abilities. Especially in order to lead such a great country as Germany after Merkel’s sixteen-year term,” Berlusconi said.
On September 29, the Kremlin’s official website published a congratulatory message from the Russian president to Berlusconi. The head of state said that he considers the Italian politician one of the most authoritative statesmen in Europe. Putin also wished his friend health and good spirits.
