How to restore cast iron cookware: it is generally “indestructible”

Cast iron cookware is a timeless classic. Cooking on it is not only useful, but also very convenient, because cast iron evenly distributes heat, which is ideal for such whimsical dishes as steak.

But what if a chic cast-iron skillet is rusty and overgrown with dirt? No panic! Now we will tell you about a simple way to restore cast iron to its former glory!

What you will need:

  • alcohol vinegar;
  • metal scraper;
  • foil;
  • heated oven.

  1. Put the cast-iron skillet in the oven, preheated to 220 degrees, for 2.5 hours. Place foil under it.
  2. Take out the pan and treat with vinegar. Rub it with a metal scraper, wetting it regularly with vinegar. Alternatively, you can soak it in a bowl of vinegar for 2 hours.
  3. Scrub the pan until the rust is removed, then hand wash and dry.
  4. Return to oven to remove moisture completely. Do not proceed to the next step until all traces of rust are completely removed!
  5. Now rub the pan with animal fat or vegetable oil. Treat it well on all sides.

And remember: do not wash cast iron cookware in the dishwasher and do not leave it wet for a long time.
