Sometimes it may be necessary to bend a relief part from sheet metal, perhaps even with a concave or convex pattern. This can be a drawer lid, decorative strip, etc. In production, they are obtained by pressing between dies. But there is technology that allows you to make such complex parts at home without a press.
- Soft sheet metal;
- MDF 18 mm;
- bolts and nuts M6;
- steel round timber for making a breakdown.
Embossed panel manufacturing process
The first step is to make a template for the future part out of paper. Half of the form is cut from MDF according to the template. Its counterpart should be smaller so as not to interfere with the work with a hammer.
The edges of the halves will need to be milled on one side.
A panel blank is cut from the sheet metal. It is made a little larger.
Part of the workpiece will go to the folds along the edge, so the higher the sides should be, the more tolerances are taken.
Then it is placed between the matrices. All 3 layers are drilled together and bolted together.
The clamped metal can now be bent. With sliding light strokes, it is necessary to bend the sides around the circumference to the wide half of the matrix. You need to act moving in a circle, bending the sides a little.
After that, the matrix is disassembled.
Through grooves are cut out on its halves along the outline of the desired panel relief. In this case, it will represent 2 crossed lines.
In the groove of the bottom panel, you need to cut out the depth-limiting slats. They will not allow the metal to bend more than it should be, and to tear. In addition, with them, the deepening will turn out to be uniform in depth.
The panel blank is again pulled together by the mold halves. Inserts are laid under the bottom.
For further work, you need to carve a sample with a rounded end from the round timber. He will form a depression.
Then, by striking it with a hammer, we bend the relief along the matrix.
If you have an electric or pneumatic hammer drill, you can make a knob out of a rod and weld it onto a bat. Then tapping the relief will turn out much faster and easier.
The panel made in this way is then sanded a little to remove the marks from the dents. They can also be putty and then painted over. If the panel is to be solid without perforation, the holes are welded.
