Growing mushrooms from mycelium
If you don’t have the opportunity to pick up fresh mushrooms in the forest, then this option is definitely for you. The only thing you need is to purchase porcini mycelium. Fortunately, there is enough such good on the Internet.
So, the mycelium is acquired, we begin planting. The ideal time for this is from May to September. First you need to prepare a landing site. To do this, you need to remove the top layer of earth around the tree trunk.
Put compost or soil with a high peat content on the dug-up area, and spread the pieces of porcini mycelium on top. Expand the mycelium in a checkerboard pattern every 25–30 cm. One package is enough for one tree.
Then cover everything with a layer of soil, which was removed at the beginning, fields the planting site. Just water carefully so as not to erode the soil. One such site will need 2 to 3 buckets of water.
It is very important to take care of the mushrooms. It is recommended to cover the planting area with straw to maintain moisture. The site should not dry out. To protect against frost, the area should be covered with straw, moss or fallen leaves. It will be possible to remove the coverlet only in the spring.
The first mushrooms will appear within a year after the mycelium has taken root. And after that porcini mushrooms will delight you for about four more years.
Growing mushrooms from fresh mushroom caps
For this method, you will have to go to the forest for mushrooms. Your target is mature mushrooms with large caps. It is better to choose healthy mushrooms.
After the mushrooms are harvested, seed must be prepared from them. Place the collected mushrooms in a bucket of water. It is best to use rainwater or at least spring water. After that, knead the mushrooms with your hands right in a bucket until smooth. Pass the solution through a sieve. Just do not throw away the pulp itself, it can also be planted.
You received spore solution and mushroom tissue. Then they need to be planted. Prepare the landing site in the same way as in the previous method. To plant your mushroom mixture, pour the strained solution onto the roots of the tree, and put the mushroom cloth on top. Then repeat all the same steps as with planting the mycelium.
After a year or two, you will harvest your porcini mushrooms. By the way, if you plant mushrooms in August, and they appear next fall, then the mushroom caps have taken root. If only after two years, then the controversy took root. The mushroom harvest can be harvested for up to 4 years.
