According to Eatthis, a new study has found that choosing an unsweetened coffee as opposed to a drink with sugar can help you live longer.

In particular, a survey was conducted of more than 171,000 people who spoke about their coffee drinking habits.

What did the study show?

It turned out that after seven years, unsweetened coffee drinkers had a 16-20% lower risk of premature death compared to those who sweetened the drink.

And compared to those who drank very sweet coffee (a tablespoon of sugar per serving), these numbers are 29-31%.

Coffee is a healthy drink, but sugar ruins everything

“Black coffee is healthy because it contains all of the beneficial polyphenols and antioxidants without any of the harmful compounds found in excessive amounts of sugar or cream,” the researchers concluded.

Note that according to the caffeine safety study conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), moderate coffee consumption is usually defined as three to five cups per day.
