• What does science say, does calcipotriol work?
Yes it works. Scientists compared different medications for psoriasis and estimated how many patients achieved remission, or at least received relief from an exacerbation of the disease. Calcipotriol has shown itself to be more effective even than hormonal ointments of low activity.
It turned out that if an ointment with calcipotriol at a concentration of 50 μg / g is applied to a psoriatic plaque twice a day, the effectiveness is higher than with the same use of hydrocortisone 0.5% or betamethasone 1 mg / g. It was also found that monotherapy with calcipotriol gives a similar effect to the combination of betamethasone with salicylic acid.
The addition of calcipotriol to standard antipsoriatic therapy – steroids and phototherapy – increased the effectiveness of the treatment and allowed to reduce the dosage of hormones and ultraviolet radiation.
